A farewell to Stephen Heap

Revd Dr Stephen Heap has chaired our Higher Education Working Group for the last 11 years, leading us in work to engage with higher education policy, resourcing chaplains and informing our churches about current issues in higher education. Stephen has decided to step back from this role, and on 16 September, Paul Rochester, Graham Handscomb (Chair of the Free Church Education Committee), and Sarah Lane Cawte took Stephen out for a farewell lunch, as an expression of our deep appreciation for all that he has done.

Our engagement with higher education will continue but will be more fully integrated into the work of the Free Church Education Committee.

Stephen will also be working with us on a joint research project exploring the role of chaplains in relation to freedom of speech in universities, so we will continue to benefit from his considerable expertise and knowledge of the higher education sector.
We are grateful for all that Stephen has done for us over the last 11 years, and for his unique contribution to the work of engaging the churches with higher education.
